CINCINNATI—Bengals Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt Shocked to Learn Many Penalties Were on Actually on Him After Forgetting He Changed Jersey Numbers After College

By: Sideline SnarkJanuary 13, 2025

In a stunning revelation, cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt admitted on Tuesday that he had been completely unaware of the numerous pass interference, holding, and illegal contact penalties called against him throughout the 2024 season.

According to Taylor-Britt, the reason for his obliviousness wasn’t a lapse in judgment or performance, but rather his failure to remember that he had changed his jersey number after leaving Nebraska, where he wore No. 5.

"Ohhhh sh**********t," said Taylor-Britt after James Rapine of every Bengals podcast asked him about his numerous pass interference calls against Pittsburg in the season finale. "I'm 29, ain't I? My bad."

Taylor-Britt went on to say that he forgot he changed his number from 5, which was his number when he played college football at Nebraska.

"All this time I was getting super pissed at number 29, thinking it was DJ [Ivey]. I'm feeling a little embarrassed right now. But I'll remember in 2025."

Throughout 2024 Taylor-Britt (#29) was responsible for nine accepted penalties, some of which were at key moments of games. Who knows how differently the season might have turned out if he remembered what number he was and started to make adjustments according to the flags being thrown.

"Are you f*cking kidding me?" commented former Bengals Defensive Coordinator, Lou Anarumo after being informed of Taylor-Britt's admission. Anarumo was fired by the Bengals on Monday, January 6, after six seasons as the team's Defensive Coordinator after the secondary regressed year over year, none as much as Taylor-Britt.

Head Coach Zac Taylor commented that had Taylor-Britt made adjustments to his penalty-based feedback from the officials, he might not have had to fire such a talented Defensive Coordinator as Anarumo. "It's too late now," Taylor lamented.

Taylor went on to say that this offseason he planned to make Taylor-Britt a gold chain featuring a diamond-encrusted and upside down #29, so every time Taylor-Britt looked down, he would be reminded of his correct number. "Just a minor adjustment and I'm confident Cam will be able to play at a high level and do things the right way," commented Taylor.

The results remain to be seen in 2025, but WhoDey nation certainly hopes these changes will help Taylor-Britt have a better year than the one he mistakenly had in 2024.
